this is LUYA
I was never one of those musicians who felt like they were naturally instilled with a musical gift or passion. Hailing from the Bay Area in Northern California, I grew up in a family that emphasized the importance of excelling in academics and playing an instrument. I was forced by my parents to play violin throughout my childhood and eventually swore off playing any music because of that experience.
However, late in high school, I discovered the guitar, which inevitably led to the genre of blues/jazz music (John Mayer, Jimi Hendrix, BB King). I became enthralled with this new world and it led me to pursuing music in college.
College made me feel like an archaeologist digging up dinosaur fossils. I was soaking up so much knowledge & skills as I was slowly unearthing the huge skeleton of music with all its different genres (jazz, country, fusion, hip hop, R&B, gospel, soul, etc.). It was a formative time in my life as I began to develop an unique palette as a musician and creator. This is when my love for film/TV began to sprout.
After college, I began exploring what it meant to create music as a producer. I always thought that I would be more of a guitar specialist but I realized the limitations of that as I tried to create songs. I began to mix and make beats on Instagram as a way to express my ideas and before you know it…they eventually solidified into a weekly occurrence. Three years later, I’ve finally compiled and created my debut album, Origin. I eventually realized that this passion of music and film was starting to evolve into a career.
Fast forward to the present day and here we are…gazing at the culmination of this journey...LUYA.
